Marketing Secret 1: Solve A Common Problem

Success in Digital Marketing and Direct Response Television is not rocket science. If you think of some of the outrageous successes over the past few years, the key is the products solve an everyday problem that millions of people must deal with.  If your idea does not solve a problem that millions of people must solve every day, you may consider going back to the drawing board and creating one that does.

You cannot fall in love with your product!  I will say this again! You cannot fall in love with your product!  Your product is a means to an ends which I am assuming is your ultimate financial freedom and enough wealth to be financially independent for life. If the product does not fit this mold, discard the idea and think harder.

I said earlier how the Direct Response industry has a 20 to 1 failure rate. Probably 75 per cent of the products that fail are not good products for Direct Response TV.  That does not mean they are not good ideas. It only means that if you intend to market a product using Direct response marketing on TV, Social Media, or through Digital Marketing, you want to give your product the best chance. It must conform to the types of products that appeal to people quickly and compel them to pick up the phone or click the link and ORDER!

NOW, there will always be exceptions to the rule, but if you are dealing with your own money or even OPM (Other People’s Money), you want to reduce the risk of the investment and that means maximizing the value and potential of direct response marketing.  That means – you must have a product that solves an extremely common problem for people.

Here are some examples:  One of my favorites; The Snuggie added sleeves to a blanket so your arms stay free while you stay warm. Not rocket science, but it created a phenomenon that swept the nation and made the creators very wealthy.  It will continue to sell in retail for many years.

How about the Roomba Robotic Vacuum? It vacuums your house so you don’t have to. Everyone wants that. Now programming and creating this machine did take some Rocket Science from some extremely bright people, but the concept was extremely simple.  Vacuum your floors while you do anything else.  It was and still is an astronomical success that will continue to sell through many evolutions and improvements of the product.

One incredible example of a simple product that has sold hundreds of millions of units is the Ped-Egg. It’s a better way for people to give their feet a pedicure at home and even contains the dead skin and calluses so that you don’t have to sweep them up or get them all over the place.

The Genie Bra is an amazing product that allows ladies to have a comfortable bra that hides bulges. This bra has propelled the direct marketer into the 3rd largest bra manufacturer in the world.

The Ab Doer – a phenomenally successful fitness product – promised fast, easy to create six-pack abs.  Who doesn’t want great abs without having to spend hours in the gym doing painful, uncomfortable workouts?

These are just a few examples of some incredibly successful products, and the key to their success is that they solved significant problems that millions of people face every day.

So think about it… What are some common, everyday problems that people have to deal with every day? What kind of product would solve that quickly and easily? If you can answer yes to both of those questions… You could be well on your way to “As Seen On TV” or Direct Marketing Success.
